saxy has surprised me with his determination to have a christmas, but because of him, we have food for tomorrow and gifts under the tree. i guess i better stop telling the kids we're not going to have a christmas after this, because this year has proven that my husband will find a way.
so we have the cookies all baked.
the hens are thawing.
even the cheesecake was purchased!
i was hoping for a relatively quiet day today, but that was again cut short, this time by kitten. she'd received her paycheck and needed to cash it and do some christmas shopping. i understand why, but lord does her timing sucks...badly. it was a nightmare out there. we only went to two stores and they were crazy. and traffic? even worse. and things were running out. seriously, the toy department of one store had places that were stripped bare. for a year where people are buying less, it sure doesn't look like it! and i was surprised she got her shopping done in the time allotted. just nuts.
there's a reason we try to get things done earlier, if we can.
saxy did call me as he entered the mall this morning to finalize his gifts. he said he'd never seen so many men standing in one place before. and a lot of them had children with them, as if the wives said, "you're doing your christmas shopping? take the kids with you!"
tomorrow we get descended upon. jewel and rhed will be here for breakfast, assuming rhed gets up early enough, and the gift opening. saxy will make the potatoes and stuffing after all eating and present giving is done so we have two less things to worry about when kitten and i start cooking at 2. somewhere around 3 or so, a friend of kitten's from work will be coming over (he apparently has no local family to have christmas with). linnorm's plane lands around 3, which means he should be here about 4 or so...just in time for dinner.
seating will include the couch, chair, floor, and steps, in addition to the table. good thing we generally do a buffet style service.
tonight we start prepping some other things for tomorrow. i need to pull out and wash coffee mugs for the morning hot chocolate, start pulling out and determining what service tray will have what food, put the christmas linens on the right tables, and pull out the christmas dishes and goblets and make sure they're ready to go. tonight, after dinner, all dishes must be washed or we won't have enough plates and silver for breakfast tomorrow. froggy has spent part of the day cleaning up a bit more so the house is at least respectable. we also have to make sure we have towels for linnorm since he'll be here about a week.
we've got what we need, we now just need to finish preparing and setting up. and then, tomorrow, the invasion.
