back to "normal"

our last holiday party was last night: the annual fifth group appreciation party. this year's theme: dragon con cosplay. this was one hubs and i could get into. we went as typical dragon con attendees with our dragon con t-shirts and all our badges. i added the stuffed dragon key chain we picked up for me the year before last, i believe, and the two dragon con necklaces i have. what was really neat was seeing some people who really got into it, including this guy:

and these guys:

and yes, there were more than star wars characters. there was a few x-men, anime characters (of course), a game character or two, even a matrix agent (who i recognized solely based on the black line running from his ear to his pocket of his impecable suit, lol). it was a lot of fun to see the various creative ideas people had put together (notnearly as much fun as at con itself, but then, 60,000 people don't go to this party...thank goodness).

and apparently, i'm known at this party by long term attendees, and not just by those who have ad a taste of my cupcakes. people were asking hubs if i were there, if i was out on the dance floor already. when i finally did locate the dj, he said he'd been wondering where i was too! one fellow even ran into me and said he was glad to see me again. i told hubs if i didn't make it one year, he might be in trouble. ;)

we didn't stay through to shutting the place down like we usually do though. hubs had to be at work today and i have a stone bruise on my heel. byt the time we left, i was feeling it and had to limp into the house (woke up just fine this morning though; i mean, it still hurts to walk on it, but it's not the agony i expected). staying off it as much as possible the rest of the week so i can get back to my cardio thang next week.

this bit of fun, and the one night of the year hubs and i are pretty much guaranteed to get out on a "date", was the last of our holiday plans. this means the last of the holiday food needs to be eaten (there's not a lot—mostly cookies—but enough to make the food control an issue) and routines need to be gotten back into. we're always al over the place for the weeks between thanksgiving and new year's, though this year the derailment occurred closer to christmas because we weren't sure there would be any christmas baking etc.

in addition to the usual routines with food, house cleaning, exercise, etc, i'm hoping to get back into experimenting a bit with the cupcakes for hubs. this week we're going to try a triple chocolate. i'm really finding baking to be a bit of a stress reliever, even if i shouldn't eat much of what i make. plus, we really need to figure out how to use this to get a little money in the house, even if it's not consistent.

writing fell a bit by the wayside over the last week, but i'm already getting back into that habit again.

i'm really hoping this year is going to be better. i'm anticipating it being better. and getting back into what passes for normal around here, a word i use somewhat loosely since the last couple of years has shown how much in flux "normal" is for us, will be a big step towards having a better year.
