other than having a house guest, things are pretty much getting back to the usual already. well, okay, i'm also not working right now, but i expect the first week or so of january will be pretty quiet once the long term is over (only 3 days, thank god!). i've already called to make appointments so taz and my meds can be refilled. linnorm and the kids are at the grocery store now and should be back soon so that chores can be taken care of. the only thing really out of the ordinary is that i actually have time to write -- the office is even clean enough for me to work in. preetty amazing!
as for christmas, everything seemed off. the kids' appetites were down, the food tasted a little off -- not bad, necessarily, but not as good as usual, linnorm was understandably exhausted after his long day. i've told him no more christmas day arrivals -- i don't care how much money he saves, it throws everything out of whack. and one of these days i'll write down what i do with the cornish hens that works so i have fewer times when the hens don't taste quite right. this time i think it was too much butter. the seasonings themselves may have been off as well, but the butter definitely made it so the brown sugar didn't do its job. having two extra hens this time around probably threw things off as well.
beyond that, the kids are already enjoying their gifts today. miss thang's phone is all set up and she has played around with her digital camera, froggy is using her cd player, and taz is playing his over the hedge ps2 game. chores missed over the weekend are also being taken care of, as well as the usual daily stuff. saxy's at work, or running around for work as usual. either later today or tomorrow, miss thang and linnorm will go up to the dmv (or whatever it's called out here since i'm sure it's not the dmv) and get her an i.d. and then go to the local bank and open an account so she can receive her child support. tomorrow evening we'll go see eragon. friday linnorm and saxy and the kids will go see night in the museum. saturday we're all off to see happy feet. not sure what else is planned beyond that for everyone. for me, it's writing. i'm sure we'll do a lotr movie fest at some point this week since saxy works all day and he's not a lotr fan. i've also got to work on a new layout for whysper for next year.
it's funny how the holidays don't really seem to affect much one they're over. there's all this madness to get ready for one or two days, then . . . it's just . . . done. 4 or 5 hours to make a dinner that's eaten in 30-45 minutes. hours of shopping for gifts opened in less than 30 minutes. all that remains is the decorations. and some people don't even keep that much up.
no wonder the day after is such a let down to some people. for me, the peace and quiet and settling back into routine is good. particularly after or during a long term position, i really need that down time.
