so, the car. it's still not registerable because it's still not passing emissions. saxy is quite frustrated and getting quite depressed about the situation. he's feeling a little incapable, when all it's been, really, is bad luck and choices there was no way he could have known weren't going to work out.
backing up. saxy has tried a couple of times now to save us money on the car repairs. he picked up a catalytic converter online for $100 less than what he would have if he'd gone through a mechanic. had it installed by said mechanic, and the car still failed emissions. mechanic indicated it could be another part and the total for parts and labor would be about $300.
we get the money together for that, but instead of going to said mechanic, saxy trusts flake. picks up the part, waits and waits and waits some more for the cheaper mechanic. never gets around to it. flake also takes $25 to get him a paper tag which he STILL hasn't brought by. by this time, saxy hasn't worked for a week and a half. rent is due, we need food, kitten is scheduled to fly in, and the car could still get impounded if he's pulled over.
today he finally goes to previous mechanic and gets new part installed. it still doesn't pass emissions. saxy is beyond frustrated right now. he came home pretty much in one of the worst moods i've seen. we don't have rent money because of this, and it looks like the original catalytic converter he had installed wasn't the correct part or some other issue with it. so, now instead of saving around $150, we're going to be paying at least that much more than we would have if he had just let the mechanic deal with it to begin with. which also might mean this other part he just had installed may have been a total waste of money as well.
and he's still not working until this mess gets solved. there will be NO paycheck this week to cover anything. the child support is going to have to go and help cover rent. utilities? forget it...and we just got a cell phone bill as well--and saxy needs his cell phone for on the job. it's as big a mess as we've ever been in and it's going to take something close to a miracle to solve it without losing anything.
fortunately, the mechanic is willing to do a diagnostic to try to pinpoint the problem, and he's willing to do it for free. we probably should have done this from the beginning, but, you know, hindsight is 20/20. after that, i'm not at all sure how we're going to finagle payment for any fixes, but, at this point, i have to leave it in saxy's hands.
as long as he doesn't try to save us any more money, any way.
*sighs*
