$600 and 2 repair shops later, the car still isn't fixed. apparently everything worked okay for a little bit, but on the way home it began to overheat and the stupid warning bell started to go off again.
to be fair to the shop, we were the ones who told them what was wrong. and we told them basically what we were told. it wasn't necessarily wrong - the fan was pretty much dead, and the temperature gage did need replacing. these things just weren't, apparently, the culprits we were after.
so, now saxy has to take the car back and see what it will cost to have them do a thorough check of the car and give us a list of the issues. then we have to pinpoint the problems that are likely to cause (or are causing) the most difficulty and get quotes on how much it will cost to fix them. then comes shelling out more money to actually take care of said issues.
i really was hoping to have this all dealt with so saxy would have a cooler summer, and now it looks like that's not going to happen. even if we can afford to get the car checked out, we have to wait until the july rent is paid for before we fix anything. i just hate to see saxy, who has a higher internal thermometer than most people i know, have to suffer because of it.
yes, he really does struggle in the humidity out here. he says it's hotter out here than out in cali. it really isn't, but the humidity is murder on the poor man. i worry about him. and now he's supposed to be cutting back on soda, so i worry about how much he has to drink. i'm sure he'll manage, it's just going to be a much more miserable summer for him than it needs to be. hot, humid, and noisy. joy.
if he didn't drive so much, it probably wouldn't be a big deal. but he's now mcat's assistant in the field, so to speak, and does a lot of driving in terms of going and checking on jobs and picking up supplies and equipment.
we definitely have to look into a new vehicle for him when i get hired on full time. my little jetta isn't going to make it for very much longer under this kind of brutal treatment.
