Dragoons & Lancers Kain, the Dragoon from FFIV, has to be my favorite FF character, and part of the reason I love him so much is his ability to "jump!." His class is the dragoon, but the jump ability is also a part of the lancer class (up to Kimahri, who was given a different ability but qualifies as a lancer if only by the fact that he uses a lance). Kain is the first character given the ability "jump!" is FFIV. He is also the only character listed as a Dragoon in the series to date (although there is a Dragon Knight later in the series). In FFV, where the classes aren't specific to a particular character, the ability is given to the Lancer job. FFVI gives the ability "leap!" instead of "jump!," although the effect of the ability is similar, to Gau. The jump ability and a spear is also given to Freya in FFIX, a female Dragon Knight. In FFX, Kimahri carries a lance and his ability is called "lancet," which allows him to learn the special abilities of certain creatures in the game.
